The terms you encounter in PosCaisse, explained simply.

Term Definition
Register The device/sales station. A register has a code and a role in the store (single, primary, secondary).
Cash session The work period between the opening (opening float) and the Z closure.
Opening float The amount of cash present in the drawer at the start of service.
Receipt / Transaction A recorded sale, numbered and signed. E.g. TRX-120198.
Void A correction transaction that voids a receipt, without deleting the original receipt.
X report Control reading of the register — does not close. Can be done as often as wanted.
Z closure Official and final closure of the register (immutable fiscal document, NF525).
NF525 Tax compliance framework: unalterable, signed and chained receipts.
Signature / fingerprint (hash) Code that links each receipt to the previous one: guarantees that no sale has been modified/deleted.
Refund A negative transaction linked to an original receipt (which becomes REFUNDED).
Promo code A commercial code governed by rules: dates, minimum amount, eligible products and usage limits.
Override / Authorization required Validation by a Manager/Admin (via PIN) of an action beyond the threshold of a role.
Role Employee category (Admin, Manager, Cashier, Kitchen, Server) that determines the rights.
Permission A precise right to perform an action (e.g. apply a discount, refund).
Module Feature building block unlocked by the license (BackOffice, Online ordering, Kiosk…).
Widget Configurable button/area of the POS screen (category, cart, payment, shortcut…).
Layout The arrangement of the widgets on the sales screen, designed in the POS screen editor.
Customization Choice offered at the sale: remove an ingredient, mandatory choice, add-on.
Composed product Product with a list of ingredients (as opposed to a simple product).
XL price A second optional price of a product (XL size) without creating a second product.
Order type Dine-in / Takeaway / Delivery / Drive.
Primary register (local-first) The register that serves as a source for the secondary registers and devices, on a local network.
Companion device PDA, kiosk or shared screen attached to the register.
Cash movement Cash in/out outside a sale (deposit, expense, supplier payment).
Fiscal (export) Export of the fiscal data for the administration/the accountant.
SQLCipher / encryption Protection of the database by a key; without it, the data is unreadable.
Cloud backup Archive sent to PaderfSuite with quota and retention period. Its encryption follows that of the local database.
